Founded in 2003 by Nord Anglia Education, the British School of Beijing employs the English National curriculum for students ages 2-18. The school features two campuses with excellent facilities, and offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities in both athletics and the arts. Teachers must have a strong background in the English National Curriculum, hold advanced degrees, provide proof of current UK teaching credentials, and must demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development.
Originally registered by the Chinese Ministry of Education in 1988 as a “school for diplomatic children,” and later rebuilt as an “independent school for foreign children” in 2002, the International School of Beijing is one of the first international schools in China. The school employs a standards-based curriculum for students in Early Childhood through High School. Applicants for teaching positions at the International School of Beijing must have a bachelors degree, hold accredited teacher certification, and proof of at least two years of teaching experience.
Established in 2005, Dulwich College Beijing offers instruction in accordance with the English National Curriculum through 9th grade, International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) courses for 10th and 11th grade, and International Baccalaureate (IB) for students past 11th grade. In recent years, Dulwich College Beijing has increased its focus on the use of technology in the classroom, setting up an online learning environment, and running a one-to-one laptop program for students in 9th grade and up. Prospective teachers must complete an online application form, and provide two references.
Originally founded as the American School of Guangzhou, the American International School of Guangzhou is the oldest international school in Guangzhou. The school is comprised of 965 students from 38 different countries, who consistently score high on a variety of tests, including the IB, AP, and SAT examinations. In addition to academics, the American International School of Guanzhou provides students with a variety of extracurricular options throughout elementary, middle, and high school. The school requires applicants for teaching positions to hold a bachelor’s degree, current teacher certification, proof of 3 years of teaching experience, and a commitment to participating in extracurricular activities. Candidates with experience teaching overseas or with familiarity with IB and AP courses are given preference. The salary ranges for teachers is $31,200 to $67,224. Additional benefits include professional development opportunities, sick leave, personal days, health insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, daily transportation to and from school (some restrictions apply), and a tuition waiver and free busing for faculty children who meet AISG’s admission requirements. Teachers from outside of China also receive relocation flights to and from Guangzhou, allowances for shipping and settling in, a housing allowance, and annual trips home.
The first Yew Chung school dates as far back as 1932, though the school did not become international until 1988, and did not build its secondary school or Beijing campus until 1995. The school encourages students to study both in various languages and in various arts, in addition to core academic work. Throughout all levels of learning, students are introduced to both English and Chinese language and culture. Prospective teachers must fill out a brief online application in order to be considered for teaching positions.
