How to Become a Substitute Teacher in Arkansas

The Arkansas Department of Education defines a substitute teacher as an individual who does not hold an Arkansas teaching license but is employed by a local school district to provide classroom teaching services on an occasional and/or temporary basis.

The following documentation is required by the state of Arkansas when applying to become a substitute teacher:

  • Proof of high school diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • Passing of both a statewide and nationwide background check and fingerprint clearance
  • Submission of substitute teaching application
