An Education Stimulus?
The economic stimulus plan, formed by President Obama and the Democrats of Congress, will go further than double the Education Department’s current budget if the Senate gives the plan the go-ahead. Encouraging as a potential prospect, but can these additional funds be effective for education if they are simply sucked into problematic policies? If the stimulus plan is approved, the Education Department will receive futile supplements, unless we restructure the education system in place. Without any changes in the system, the stimulus plan may have little spin-off on those who matter: the students.
Perhaps before figuring out how we can better fund American education, we should figure a way to better allocate funds. Pouring money into educational black holes will not help to enlighten America’s youth. Instead, we need a system which can transform a budget into pure education.
