International Schools
There are several reasons for the existence of international schools and they mainly allow people living and working abroad to send their children to schools that cater to the curriculum of their native country. International schools may offer a more generalized international curriculum as opposed the host countries specific curriculum. They also allow great opportunities natives of the host country to send their children to a school where they will be immersed in a variety of languages, cultures, and new experiences. International schools generally follow an international curriculum like the International Baccalaureate (IB) or the University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Other international schools follow a curriculum designed within and for a different country.
On the other side of the coin, international schools also present great opportunities for English speakers looking to teach abroad. Teaching at an international school is a great way to enhance your teaching career while living abroad or can be a great opportunity for teachers to spend time abroad and learn about new cultures and pedagogical strategies.
International school s are on the rise with the increased amount of “global citizens” and globalization in general. There are a wide variety of international school options available to Americans and other English speakers living and working abroad.
